During my trip to Japan I visited a Namco themed mall amusement park! Namjaland takes up 2 stories of the Sunshine 60 mall.

With limited knowledge of the Japanese language I’m unsure of some of the things that the place offered but they had many different places to eat (including an ice cream museum) , a massage/relaxation area, and some weird ghost catching game.

One of my favorite things about this place (besides the cute cat art everywhere) was the way they set up their food!

With all of the attention that I have been giving to the iPhone games I thought that I would try out some of the PSP Mini titles (hopefully some DSiware stuff soon).

Dracula Undead Awakening is a top down shooter that has a very fun retro arcade-y feel to it. Before I get into game-play I have to say just how much I dig the music in this game. The music in Dracula Undead Awakening is so freaking fitting and awesome that every time I turn the game on my first thought is “F’ yeah! I am gunna kill me some werewolves and monsters. What. Up.”

The game follows the basic premise of kill everything you see but don’t let anything you see kill you. The longer you last the higher your score, which gives it that retro arcade feel. There are different levels of survival- Survival, Super survival,  Wave attack, and Rush. You can choose from 3 different locals to go kill things.

The controls took a little getting used to, and I didn’t really see any  instructions for how to play.  After a bit of trial and error I figured out that you use the D-pad to move your character and the action buttons to aim and shoot.

The longer you last you are awarded with better weapons and perks, better weapons and perks help you last longer.  There is a wide array of weapons, and perks will grant you health and other types of boosts. You fight all kinds of baddies, swarms of zombies, ghost type things, werewolves, and eventually even Dracula comes out to kick your ass for a while! It’s fun times.

Dracula Undead Awakening is a great pick up and play anytime type of game, and it will cost you $4.99 from the Sony store/ Media Go.

If you like survival games then I highly recommend checking this one out, it’s fast pace, fun, and has kick ass music.

During my trip there were two kinds of cafes unique to the area that I set out to look for, a maid cafe and a cat cafe.  Happily I found both!

The cat cafe (a place where you pay a small fee to go hang out in a really large room with comfy sofas, and a bunch of adorable cats) was located in the Sunshine City area.

They do not serve food there but you can bring your own if you wanted to.

They had a line  of these really cutesy violent figures displayed each with their own label, all except one was labeled in Japanese.

One of the best things about Japan, besides the fact that they serve beer at KFC, is the plentiful amount of arcades and toy shops. Seriously, you can’t throw a stone without hitting a Pachinko parlor around here and the toy stores sometimes go up 9 stories high.

Aso Bit City was one of the first multi-floored toy stores I checked out. Being that photo’s aren’t really allowed there aren’t that many in this tour set, but you at least get to take a peek.

About a minute into my Dracula the Path of the Dragon playthrough I was blown away with the game. Dracula is a fully realized point and click mystery pc game right there on my freaking phone, complete with animated scenes, and is fully voiced over.

Point and click games are ones that you unfortunately do not see very often though they were extremely popular years ago when PC’s weren’t as powerful as they currently are so as a result the games were more story and puzzle based.

For those who don’t know, a point and click adventure game were commonplace on PC’s back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Back then, a PC that had a 16 Mhz CPU and 2 MB of RAM was considered a power gaming rig. However, power gaming back then is far different than what it is now. In order to tell a deep story, game makers had to be more creative and work around the PC’s limitations. Mainly for this reason, the “Point and Click” Adventure game became a common method of telling a deep story.

Point and Clicks consisted of controlling your on screen avatar by using your mouse to point at a destination on screen and clicking. The avatar will walk to the spot you clicked. Using your mouse, you would search for items on screen you may need to pick up, use, etc for the sake of puzzle solving. These games consisted of little to no action. They focussed on story and puzzle solving. As a result, this type of game, while slow paced, can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

As technology allowed for more advanced style of games (visually), point and clicks faded in lieu of direct controlled action/adventure titles. Monkey Island made way for Drake’s Fortune.

So what does this have to do with Dracula The Path of the Dragon? Our featured title is a bit of a throwback to those games of old. Here we have an old school point and click on the iPhone.

Players control Father Arno Moriani, who is sent to investigae a potential candidate for sainthood in 1920 Translyvania. Through out your investigation you will come across some extremely difficult puzzles that are very fitting to the games story and time period.

Dracula The Path of the Dragon is hitting the app store episodically so you only get one part of the game right now, but it’s the first 2 days of the game. Don’t write Dracula off because you aren’t getting the entire game, the price beyond makes up for that.  You’ll only be paying 99 cents for a good chunk of the game, which really is a steal if you think about it.

If you are a fan of either good puzzles, a deep story, or point and click games then you should just be on the iTunes app store right now getting this game.

And while you’re there tell them I sent you! No one will really know who I am and you’ll realize that you are talking to yourself but on the brightside you’ll still have a new fun game.
