Silent Hill: Shattered Memories mini-review
Current Mood: Quiet

I am going to try to keep this post short and spoiler free, so if you have yet to play the game it’s ok to read on as I will not mention any major plot points, twists, or turns.
Read on!
Silent Hill Shattered Memories was released on the Nintendo Wii early last week. If you are a fan of the series and think it’s ok to skip this game because you already know the story, then you are completely fooled. This is not the same game you played years ago (or in my case at least once a year).
Shattered Memories is a complete different take on the town, and its inhabitants. In a way I actually like this story better as it is more to the point than the original, but it is equally deep.
The game opens up with a psychology warning, informing you that the game pays attention to you and will change according to your choices and actions. That warning it gives you is no lie, I see pictures all over the net of things I did not come across in my play through, rooms and puzzles I never saw, characters that look completely different than the way they appeared to me.
Shattered Memories is one of the few real survival horror games to come out in the last few years, it’s filled with puzzles, and scares that will cause you to jump out of your seat. The fear in this game is highlighted by the lack of offensive options, you can’t attack enemies, only push them or shake them off while trying to outrun them.

If you are a fan of the series then you should check out Shattered Memories to shine a different light on a story you thought you once new. Even if you aren’t a fan, the changes that were made to this game might actually make you one with its interesting and heartbreaking story.
Much like previous Silent Hill’s there are multiple endings, if interested here is a video of the ending that I got. The video does contain spoilers.

I finished my first play through of the game this weekend and loved it! It felt very fresh and even during my second play through, things are still very new and different!
