Erick Scarecrow Interview Highlights

Posted on 21st April 2008 by That Girl in Everything Else

I got a chance to spend a few minutes with the very awesome Erick Scarecrow (the man behind the recently released Soopa Coin*up Bros) who was at the con showing off his amazing NY Comic-con releases, exclusives and doing some signings. He was cool enough to answer a few of my questions about games and some of his upcoming vinyls.

Our chat went extremely well and I became a little engrossed in the convo so I didn’t get to write everything down so here are some of the highlights.

TG: For your recently released Soopa Coin*up Bros DIY vinyl, was there a specific game that played a part in the inspiration for creating it?

ES: I wouldn’t say that it was one game, I used to play a lot of games.

When I did the Soopa Coin*up Brothers, I did it in hopes of bringing in game heads and toy heads to bridge the gap.

TG: Do you currently game? and if so what are you playing now?

ES: Yes I do, right now I’m playing Ninja Gaiden for the DS. I’m also playing Crisis Core for the PSP, the cutscenes are really amazing. It’s hard to find time to play as much as I would like to when running an indie toy company.

TG: What game are you looking forward to most this year?

ES: That’s easy, Resident Evil 5. I can’t wait for that. I loved Resident Evil 4, I beat it 3 times.

Metal Gear Solid 4 looks off the hook too, but it can’t compete with Resident Evil 5.

TG: What was your inspiration behind the NY Comic-con released Kissaki vinyl?

ES: I wanted to create a character that uses art as her weapon. Her swords are her hands and her fists are her art skills and weapon.

I really love to mix art with my figures, thats why you see pencils in the crown of my Liberty figure.

TG: Will we see any color variants for Kissaki?

ES: At the San Diego comic-con, it’s going to be a San Diego release so you won’t be able to find it in stores only at the convention or online.

TG: Do you have any clues or hints for what you might be working on next?

ES: No.

Actually, I have 10 figures planned. There will be some surprises.

The next figure planned is Kissaki’s enemy, she’ll be debuting at the San Diego comic-con.

Lazy Kakashi at the con

I saw this cosplayer taking a nap on the show floor, I find it funny that they were holding the Make-Out book. I can’t tell if it’s Make-out Paradise, Make-out Violence, or Make-out tactics that he’s holding but it’s still pretty funny.

Mixed Media Mario

Posted on 21st April 2008 by That Girl in Arts, Everything Else, Video Games

Its a 24×30 Canvas mixed media. The canvas background is acrylic paint while the clouds are created using a white charcoal. The blocks and actual characters are printed at a high quality with regular paper and then laminated before being “raised” using foam board

The inspiration was mostly just mine and my husband’s love for nintendo and the need to fill the space above the new bed we just purchased. It took about a week to get everything together and assembled, mostly because of my hectic schedule.

I originally spotted this on Tragic’s Flickr page but it turns out that she also has a etsy page, you can find it here designsbyjo.etsy.com.

Tragic also mentions that she is available for commissions and I may just take her up on that because I can totally see one of these pieces hanging on my living room wall.
